Lymphedema

The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system and is a network of vessels that carry lymph fluid towards the heart. The lymphatic system is an essential part of your immune and circulatory systems. When a blockage happens in your lymphatic system, swelling of your arms or legs may occur. Improper drainage results in a build up of the lymph fluid in your arms and legs, which can generate adverse health risks.

Lymphedema often occurs after a surgery, such as the removal or damage to the lymph nodes as part of cancer treatments, or due to infected tissues. With chronic swelling, there are many risks, including circulation issues, risk of infection and potential for future injury. It is very important to receive treatment for Lymphedema and to follow up with your doctor on a routine basis.

- David E.

“Lymphedema of the legs is a troubling and debilitating condition. After unsuccessfully trying to go through my doctors to find someone who could treat me, I did lots of research on my own on the internet. There, I learned that the first line of treatment for Lymphedema is given by specially trained physical therapists. Finding the right one one was the next challenge.”

- Renee F.

“Excellent care! A team of therapists, each with their own area of expertise, work together to provide comprehensive care. They’re very sensitive to individuals’ levels of pain and flexibility. As people, Megan, Lisa, Shelby, and Angela, are all down to earth, easy to work with, professional and friendly. I would highly recommend DPT for your recovery and rehabilitation.”
